The village was built in the island of Ammoulianis after the Mikra Asia's destruction by refugees that came from the island of Marmara, between 1922 - 1925. That period, the island belonged in the Holy abbey Vatopediou of Mount Athos. Today, the village has roughly 650 residents. The protector Saint of the village is Saint Nikolaos, whose church is found in the central square and was built by monks in 1896. Near the church are found monastic buildings of the19th century, that were used in order to accomodate the refugees.
The biggest of them was used as a school of the village. A little outside the village of Ammoulianis are found the churches of Saint Georgiou, Saint Friday and prophet Ilia. For the boats exist harbours with docks and in the southern is a resort for fishermen. The island has many natural ports and other smaller islands that function as shelter for the fishboats from the winds. There are enough beautiful sandy beaches for tourists to use.
