Monastery of Ksenofontos

It is built above the sea, among the Abbeys Dohiariou and Saint Panteleimonos and is dedicated to Saint George. The Catholic of the Abbey was built in the beginning of the 19th century and is not pictorial. In the old Catholic are saved appreciable murals of the Cretan painter Antonios (1544) as well as the woodcut temple of the 17th century.
The Abbey has 14 chapels, from which the 8 are inside the Abbey.
We have the first indication of the Abbey in the last fourth of the 11th century. Its period of flourish was interrupted with the capture of Istamboul and afterwards the repeated destructions came renovations and donations from souvereigns of countries bordering on the Danube.
Among the appreciable heirlooms of the Abbey are included 2 mosaic icons of Saint George and Dimitrios, ecclesiastical utensils,etc. In the library of the Abbey are kept about 300 manuscripts, various documents and over 4.000 books.
In the abbey is installed a fraternity of 35 monks.
