From the first moment that the new city of Volos started to blossom, an intense activity of archaeological researches was developed. The findings are exposed in the Archaeological Museum of Volos, a neoclassic building of 1907, in the Eastern side of the city.
There are earthen utensils of the Geometric era from the castle of Volos, from Pefkakia, Nea Ionia and Neapoli, as well as sculptures of the Classic era.
Sculptures of the Oldchristian and Byzantine era testify the continuity of the Latin influence in Pilio.
In the coastal square Anavrou, opposite the Museum, representative samples of modern sculpture continue the tradition of plastic arts.
