| Skiathos |
More than 60 beaches adorn Skiathos, the homeland of Alexandros Papadiamantis, the famous Greek writer.
It abstains 2,4 miles from the coasts of southern Pilio and 4 miles from Skopelos.
It has 48 sq.m extent, 12 km length and 9 km width .
The southern side of the island has a big touristic growth, while its northern side remains natural and unexplored.
In the 14th century, the residents of the city of Skiathos abandoned their place, and built the new capital on a tall rock next to the sea, in the northern part of the island, in Kastro. After the Greek revolution, the city of Skiathos became the centre of the island.
In front of the city of Skiathos is found Mpourtzi, a woody hill, on a small peninsula. In Mpourtzi is found the cultural centre of Skiathos, that accommodates cultural events during the year and mainly in the summer with the name "Dream in the wave".
