Lefkes

Lefkes

Lefkes (11km from Paroikia) is a lovely, green and mountainous village, built amphitheatrically in the centre of the island, in height of 250 metres. The village was founded probably the 16th century by the name Iria from refugees that came from Crete and Peloponnesus but also local people that in order to avoid the pirates they took to the mountainous inland. The village maintains its pure Cycladic colour that hasn't been altered by the touristy movement, distinctive white houses whitewashed stone benches, wells and marbled narrow streets. Everywhere we can find samples of folklore architecture which combine harmoniously neoclassicism with Aegean aesthetics. The cars stop at the parking in the entrance of the village and the transportations are done by feet.
