Prodromos

Prodromos

In the south-east side of Paros in a distance of 5 km from Lefkes we meet Prodromos, a picturesque village with pure white houses, beautiful churches, gardens and remarkable monasteries (of Panagia, Saint Panteleimonas). It was named after the metropolitan temple of Saint John the Prodrom, building of the 17th century with interesting old icons and woodcuts. The village was famous since the medieval ages. Its old name was Dragoylas or Tragoulas from the Tragean Apollo, protector of the shepherds whom they worshiped in Paros. For those who love hiking, the Byzantine path that connects Lefkes with Prodromo offers a unique walk of an hour and a half that passes through vineyards and olive groves. The path was built thousand years ago and in most of its length it is paved with great slabs of marble.
